Step 1: Make sure that the Windows Update service is functioning.

  • Press the Windows key + R to open a Run
  • In the Run dialog, insert services.msc

  2. Type notepad into the Run dialog
  3. Click on the Enter Key to launch a new Notepad.
  4. Type or copy the following text in Notepad: sc config wuauserv start= auto
  5. sc config bits start= auto
  6. sc config DcomLaunch start= auto
  7. net stop wuauserv
  8. net start wuauserv
  9. net stop bits
  10. net start bits
  11. net start DcomLaunch
  12. Press Ctrl + S.
  13. Open the dropdown menu in front of Save as type: and click on All Files to select it.
  14. Type repair.bat as the File name: field.
  15. Select where you want to save the .BAT file
  16. Select Save
  17. Find the .BAT file, right-click on it and click on Run as administrator.
  18. The .BAT file will open an elevated Command Prompt
  19. Execute each of the required commands
  20. Close the elevated Command Prompt

After following these steps, try to launch the update, and if the error code 0x80070422 pops up again, move to the next step.

Step 3: Restart Network List Service

There are a few services that need to be properly checked and working for the updates to function. If these services are disabled, then the 0x80070422 error pops up. Follow the steps mentioned below.

  • Click on Start, located at the bottom left corner.
  • In the search dialog type run
  • Double click the first result to launch Run.
  • Type msc
  • Launch Windows Services.
  • Locate the Network List Service
  • Right-click on it
  • Choose Restart option

  • BitLocker Drive Encryption Service
  • DCOM Server Process Launcher
  • Network Connections
  • Windows Defender Firewall

After the following steps, try relaunching the Update service and see if the 0x80070422 error still appears. If the issue is not solved, move to the next step.

Step 4: Disable IPv6

This method has proven effective in discarding the 0x80070422 error. Follow the step mentioned below-

  1. Press Windows key + R
  2. Type ncpa.cpl in the dialog box
  3. Click on Enter Key
  4. Right-click the internet connection that the device is connected to and select Properties
  5. Uncheck the option Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
  6. Select OK
  7. Reboot

  • Type regedit into the Search bar
  • Select Registry Editor from the list

  • In the name field, enter DisabledComponents.
  • Right-click the new DisabledComponents value and choose Modify.
  • Enter ffffffff as Value data and press OK to save changes
  • Close Registry Editor and restart your computer

Step 6: Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter

Windows 10 comes with a built-in troubleshooter that can quickly resolve such technical issues affecting Update services. While this isn’t always effective, this feature has helped users solve many small recurring problems in the Windows Update services. Follow the following steps-

  • Click on Start, located at the bottom left corner.
  • Select Update & Security option
  • In the left corner, locate Troubleshoot option and select it.
  • Click on Windows Update
  • Select Run the troubleshooter option

After this step is completed, refresh the device and try to launch the required update again. Although this is a simple method, it may solve the 0x80070422 error problem.
